SPFL Development League | Kilmarnock 2-4 Hearts

in Match Reports March 20, 2018

It was a frustrating night for Killie’s Development Squad as they lost out 4-2 to a clinical Hearts side at Rugby Park.

Despite enjoying the bulk of possession, Andy Millen’s men couldn’t make it count as Hearts made the most of their opportunities to run out winners.

Steven Smith and Greg Kiltie featured for the hosts as they aimed to build on victory in their last home match, which came against Celtic.

Kiltie and Alex Samizadeh were Killie’s main threats as they tested Kelby Mason in the Hearts goal with a number of fine efforts.

Samizadeh’s dribbling created a fine opportunity only for the ball to run away from him in the box.

Lewis Moore made Killie pay with a fine angled drive from just inside the box to give Hearts the lead.

Mason in the Hearts goal had to be alert to produce a strong one-handed save from Kiltie just before the interval as Killie pushed hard to draw level.

The start of the second half followed a similar pattern but once again it was Hearts who proved to be deadly in front of goal.

Euan Henderson found space and he dispatched a fine strike past the despairing dive of Ross Miller.

Moore grabbed his second goal of the night in the final minutes after another good passing move on what proved to be a disappointing night for the Killie youngsters.

Innes Cameron hit a late double, including a thunderous effort, which cracked off the underside of the bar to give Killie late hope but it was not to be.

Henderson found time and space to score his second of the match in the final minute with a low finish from the left.
