Community Hero: Elizabeth Hamilton honoured at final game

in #KillieStories May 21, 2018

Congratulations to our final Community Hero, supported by Stewart Trophies, for this season, Elizabeth Hamilton.

She was nominated by her son Michael and was presented with her award by our Chief Executive Kirsten Robertson before the Hearts match.

Elizabeth spent her entire working life as a social worker (focussed mainly on fostering and adoption) with South Ayrshire Council and other private social work providers in the county.

Since retiring she has - if it's possible - become even more busy with helping others. Liz volunteers with the North Ayrshire Food Train has been helping teach IT literacy, and is also part of the Ayrshire Befriending - taking children from disadvantaged backgrounds on days out. She often travelled regularly to Girvan to do this.

Finally, despite being from Greenock, she has adopted Kilmarnock as her football team and was a season ticket holder, attending matches with her husband until he sadly passed away in 2014.

Liz took up the mantle along with relative Judith and got season tickets the following season.

The response this season has been overwhelming for the Community Hero and Chief Executive, Kirsten Robertson said: "We have been delighted with the response of the community hero and were delighted to work with Stewart Trophies on this initiative. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the deserved recipients of the award who have went above and beyond in their respective communities.

"We are all looking forward to starting this again for the new season.”

We’re looking for nominations of unsung, selfless helpers in Ayrshire in order to recognise and reward them with an unforgettable match day experience as we celebrate our 150th anniversary. No matter if it is work for a charity, local community group, emergency services or public service work, we want to hear about it.

Our Community Hero will be treated at a home Ladbrokes Premiership match and presented with a special keepsake from Stewart Trophies in front of the Killie faithful at Rugby Park.
