Kilmarnock maintained their grip on second place in SWPL2 after an excellent 5-1 victory against Aberdeen.

A double from Kirsty Munro and goals from Colette Fleming, Clare Docherty and Courtney Otto handed Stewart Hall’s team an impressive triumph.

The visitors started brightly on a sunny day at Aberdeen Sports Village with Nicole Telford holding the ball up to start a five-pass move which was finished by Munro.

Morgan Hunter in the Killie goal had to be alert to stop Aberdeen from finding a way back into the match. A free-kick on the edge of the box presented danger but Hunter produced an excellent finger tip save to knock the ball onto the crossbar.

More quick thinking from the Killie goalkeeper saw her race from her line to deny the Aberdeen striker and maintain our advantage heading into the break.

Those saves looked to be even more important when Killie doubled their lead inside the opening minute of the second period.

Lauren Sloan broke down the left and she squared the ball to Munro for her second of the match. Five minutes later and it was 3-0 with Sloan once again the provider. Her header found Colette Fleming, who controlled the ball before her left-footed shot from 25 yards out found the top corner.

A defensive mix up allowed Aberdeen to pull one goal back but Killie put this minor setback behind them to restore their three-goal lead. Sloan’s delightful pass played in Docherty and she found the corner from 15 yards out.

Substitute Courtney Otto grabbed the fifth by tapping in on the goal line to deny Munro her hat-trick following a lob from a tight angle.

Killie now host fifth place Hearts on Sunday, June 3 with a 4pm kick off.
