Killie Academy kids are the talk of the Toon

Kilmarnock’s Academy kids were the talk of the Toon this week after a successful trip to Newcastle United.

Two squads, our 2002 and 2003 group, were each given the opportunity to play a match at St James’ Park on Thursday.

It’s the third time we have visited the English Premier League giants following a strong partnership established over the past two years.

The trip gave our youngsters the opportunity to test themselves against a different type of opposition in a different environment at this stage of their development.

Killie have built up good links in the north east of England, having enjoyed a trip to Sunderland earlier this year.

It has been a busy week for the Academy players and staff as Rugby Park played host to a Scottish FA 2003 festival over two days.

The governing body brought a squad of players from the U15/16 levels to Killie’s home ground with the opportunity for our youngsters to shine in front of national staff.

In April four of our U15s, Liam Smith, Kenny Sloan, Justin Devenny and Steven Warnock, were selected for a training camp at Scotland’s National Performance Centre, Oriam.
