Community Hero: Derek Weir, our kind-hearted volunteer

in #KillieStories November 30, 2018

Today’s Community Hero is a familiar face to everyone here at the club, Derek Weir aka “Hoss”.

A volunteer in various aspects on a matchday, no job is too big or too small for Derek.

He was nominated by our Community Hero Committee and they said: “Derek has been a massive help around the club for the best part of the last 25 years.

“As a joiner to trade, Derek was always on hand to offer support and assistance to the staff here. Any odd jobs or problems we couldn’t think of a solution too, Derek was always there to lend a helping hand.

“Rugby Park is one of the oldest stadiums in the Scottish Premiership, so to have someone like Derek there to assist Mark Gallagher and the stadium team is something the club don’t take for granted.

“Starting as a ball boy when he was only 10 years old, Derek is one of our longest serving volunteers.”

In addition to his help at the football club, Derek shows his kind and caring nature on a daily basis.

Derek and his wife, Diane have fostered children to help rehabilitate and encourage their adoption, completing families.

He also does his fare bit for charity, having ran six half marathons to fundraise for lots of great causes.

We can’t think of a more deserving winner for our Community Hero award.

Congratulations to Derek, we’d be lost without you.
