in Match Reports December 3, 2018

Killie battled backed twice to snatch a draw against Fife Elite in a physical encounter at Kilwinning Sports Club.

In the first half Fife Elite came closest to scoring when Killie’s Craig Ross cleared the ball off the line after goalkeeper Jamie Walker blocked a close-range shot.

Fife Elite came close again on 40 minutes when they broke into the box only to see Aidan Murphy block the shot for a corner. Killie found it tough to break down their workman like opponents in the first half with chances at a premium.

The match came alive on the 65th minute when Fife Elite took the lead from a cross which Killie failed to stop. Jamie Walker blocked the initial shot but the follow up driven shot found the back of the net.

Seconds later Killie replied with a goal of their own. Liam Smith pressed the opponents straight from kick off and drove into the final third with Andrew Monk slotting the ball home to level the game.

In the 79th minute Fife Elite regained the lead through a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box which goalkeeper Harry Broun couldn’t keep out.

Killie piled on the pressure during injury time and in the 96th minute their pressure paid off as Euan Devenny’s throw in fell at Josh Walker’s feet. Walker laid the ball off to Ross Smith inside the 18-yard box and he found the back of the net.

U18s Head Coach Craig Clark said: “I was really pleased with the performance. We didn’t deserve to lose the game and scoring so late on showed great character and resilience from the players, something we speak about a lot.”
