Tuesday 23rd AugustSPFL Development League
KILMARNOCK 3 v. CELTIC 4
Richard Cairns @ Rugby Park
Celtic just edged a seven goal thriller at Rugby Park on Tuesday evening, but they were made to fight all the way for the points.
Celtic went through the 2015/16 SPFL Development League campaign unbeaten, and they started where they left off by taking an early lead, Ajer scoring in the 5th minute. Within sixty seconds Killie were level, Bojaj robbing a Celtic defender of the ball and sending it high into the net from fourteen yards. The rest of the first half was pretty even, with the pace of the Killie forwards, including new signing Dapo Kayode, causing Ambrose and Boyata in the heart of the Celtic defence a lot of trouble. However in the 42nd minute Hendry restored the visitors’ lead with a tap-in at the far post following a free kick.
Back came Killie again in the second half, with Lewis Morrison making it 2-2 in the 52nd minute after taking advantage of an error by Boyata. Six minutes later a good move involving Sam Lidington and Flo Bojaj set up Lewis again, but he blasted the ball past from a good position. We took the lead on the hour mark, when Iain Wilson finished off a good move with a neat shot past Hazard in the Celtic goal. Unfortunately goals by Hendry in the 63th minute and Crossan six minutes later restored Celtic’s lead. We did have one great chance to equalise soon after, but Dapo Kayode’s header landed on top of the net.
A great game nevertheless, with the Killie youngsters unlucky not to come away with something from the game.
