Kilmarnock v St Mirren

The Development side drew 1-1 with St Mirren at Rugby Park on Tuesday evening.

Killie started brightly and went close to scoring after two minutes when Lewis Morrison played a lovely weighted pass through to the on-rushing Scott McLean, who had his left-footed shot saved by St Mirren goalkeeper Reece Willison.

Paul Stephenson’s side continued to pile pressure on their opponents and had another chance to take the lead on the 19th minute when Morrison again lined up McLean, but his shot from 18 yards out was easily saved.

The home side controlled the first-half and could have taken the lead at the break as McLean cut inside onto his favoured right foot and released an excellent bending shot into the far corner being denied superbly by Willison’s save.

St Mirren started brightly in the second half and had the chance to take the lead in the 49th minute when Lawrence Shankland had a great opportunity from a corner but headed over the bar from six-yards out.

The away side had another chance on the 57th minute when Kalvin Orsi danced through the Killie defence but struck the post with a fierce left footed shot.

It was Killie that took the lead on the 77th minute when Jack Whittaker picked the ball up on the left side of the box and rolled a delicate pass to the edge of the box for Morrison who took the touch and bent a lovely right footed shot past Willison into the top right hand corner. Kilmarnock 1 – 0 St Mirren.

A terrific double save from Curtis Lyle kept the team ahead at the 82nd minute. The Kilmarnock goalkeeper denied Shankland the chance from a header then blocked the Lewis McLear shot from the rebound.

Killie were dealt a blow late on when St Mirren equalised on the 88th minute. Substitute Kyle McAllister cut inside from the right flank and released a shot with his left foot into the far corner.

The game ended all square, Kilmarnock 1 – 1 St Mirren.
