Eric Murray 1941 - 2016

It is with great sadness that Kilmarnock Football Club has to announce the death of ex-Kilmarnock player, Eric Murray.

Originally a centre-forward with the legendary Saxone Amateurs, Eric was "farmed out" only briefly to Dreghorn Juniors in May 1960, before being called up later that month. He wore the No. 9 shirt on his debut, in a 2-1 home defeat by Hearts in August 1961, but was converted into a right-half by Willie Waddell. It was in that position that he was brought back into the first team in March 1961, and he never looked back, becoming a valuable member of the Killie setup.

Arguably the unsung hero of the 1964/1965 Scottish League winning side, he appeared in all 34 League matches that season. Eric joined St. Mirren in July 1968, then Cumnock Juniors in 1971.

The Directors of Kilmarnock Football Club extend their sympathy to Eric’s family during this sad time.
