SPFL DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE: Kilmarnock 3 - 4 Dundee United

in Match Reports November 15, 2016

Kilmarnock went into the game full of positivity after a fine win over Hibs the previous week, however after being ahead the majority of the match, they succumbed to a late United attack.

Killie had a great opportunity to take the lead after 8 minutes when Lewis Morrison picked out Jack Whittaker with a clever cut back, however his effort hit the top of the cross-bar.

However, it was the visiting side who took the lead on the 23rd minute through Louis Appere.
After Killie cleared a Dundee Utd corner the ball fell out to Stewart Murdoch on the edge of the box and his shot kindly fell straight to the feet of Apere who finished into the bottom right hand corner. (0-1)

Killie responded and brought the scoreline level after 32 minutes when Aiden Wilson headed home.
Sam Lidington crossed a great ball onto the head of Flo Bojaj who’s powerful header was saved well by Dundee goalkeeper Josh Donaldson but Wilson was there to head in the rebound. (1-1)

The home side pressed for a second goal and took the lead in superb style on the 35th minute through Morrison.
A trialist swung in a dangerous ball from the right hand side and Morrison controlled the ball on his chest and acrobatically volleyed the ball into the right hand corner of the net.

Killie furthered their lead on the 40th minute when Flo Bojaj cleverly worked the ball past two Dundee United defenders and calmly placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

HT 3-1

Killie started off the second half brightly and just a few moments short of the hour mark they almost grabbed a fourth. Trialist received a long pass from Mackay and curled an effort from 20 yards out, forcing keeper Donaldson into making a fine save down low to his right.

With twenty minutes remaining, the visitors got themselves back into the match. Louis Appere was on the receiving end of a good cross and spun the ball round Jamie Cobain before slotting the ball into the net for his and United’s second. (3-2)

Five minutes later the visitors were given the chance to level the game from the spot after the ball was deemed to have struck the hand of Lewis Clark. Ali Coote took the resulting spot kick and converted to level the scoring. (3-3)

Moments after the penalty Killie had a great chance to regain the lead but Jack Whittaker’s superb strike just went a fraction over the bar.

United continued to press and with eight minutes remaining they got their reward. Graham Taylor was on the end of a great looping through ball and hit the ball sweetly on the half-volley to fire past Mackay and win the match for the visitors. (3-4)
