Kilmarnock u20’s drew 1-1 with St Johnstone on Wednesday night at Rugby Park.

The game proved to be a very tight affair with both teams giving very little away.

Dean Hawkshaw returned to action and played 45 minutes for the first time since September after picking up a knee injury against Celtic.

Killie had an early chance when Hawkshaw played through ball for Jack Paterson, but the midfielders powerful strike was tipped over the bar by St Johnstone goalkeeper Ben MacKenzie.

Flo Bojaj also went close on the 32nd minute when he broke through into the Saints’ box but his shot hit the wrong side of the side netting.

HT 0-0

Killie played with a higher tempo at the start of the second half and went close to scoring on the 47th minute. Bojaj’s clever touch set up a chance for Innes Cameron who had his low effort saved well by MacKenzie.

The deadlock was finally broken on the 56th minute through a Trialist. Substitute Scott McLean sent in a dangerous corner and Trialist controlled the ball well before superbly volleying his shot into the far corner. 1-0

The Saints’ equalised shortly after on the 59th minute. Striker George Hunter got in behind the Killie defence and fired a low dangerous ball across the box which Joseph Johnson tapped in to bring the scoreline level. 1-1

Killie had goalkeeper Devlin Mackay to thank late on as he made a fine save to deny Hunter when he latched onto a through ball.
