This was a match that Kilmarnock had to win to have any chance of qualifying for the next round, and a promising second half performance saw us go through comfortably in the end. 18 year old Will Graham started the match in place of Jordan Jones, with new signing Lee Erwin named amongst the substitutes.

There were few clear-cut chances in an uninspired first half. Dumbarton nearly took the lead when a Hill header was cleared off the line, and Kris Boyd broke clear to put the ball in the net, only to be controversially pulled back for an infringement.

Killie proved in the second half, and after Chris Burke scored in the 53rd minute with a looping header from a Dom Thomas cross we never looked back. Goal difference could still have been a factor, so there was some relief when Kris Boyd headed in in the 72nd minute from another Thomas cross. Four minutes later Lee Erwin made it 3-0 with a half-volley from a Kris Boyd knock-down.

Macdonald, O'Donnell, Taylor, Broadfoot, I. Wilson, Burke (Erwin 61), McKenzie, Frizzell, K. Boyd, Thomas, Graham (Jones 45) (Subs. - Power, S. Boyd, Waters, Samizadeh, Mackay - not used)

In the 2nd Round Kilmarnock have been drawn to play Celtic away in a tie to be played Tuesday 8th or Wednesday 9th August.
