Partick Thistle 0-2 Kilmarnock: Frizzell's stunner seals win

in Match Reports October 14, 2017

A stunning strike from Adam Frizzell and a goal from Kris Boyd ensured Kilmarnock picked up their first league win of the season.

The teenager fired an unstoppable shot past Tomas Cerny to give Killie a cushion after Boyd had capitalised on a defensive error from the hosts during the first half.

On the day Steve Clarke was announced as the club's new manager, interim boss Paul McDonald made changes as Kirk Broadfoot came into the heart of the defence with Greg Taylor and Alan Power playing in the middle of the park with Boyd leading the attack.

Stuart Findlay moved to left back as Jordan Jones was handed a free role behind Boyd with Frizzell occupying a wide left position.

After a fairly even first period, it was Killie who went ahead as Niall Keown's poor clearance fell to Boyd who made no mistake in the middle of the box.

With Clarke watching on from the stand, the near 1,000 away fans were left delighted as Killie doubled their lead just after the hour mark.

Frizell picked up the ball in midfield before driving forward and unleashing a wonderful arching shot, which left Cerny with no chance.

The offside flag denied Killie a third goal as Jones pounced after a shot from Boyd was palmed into his direction by the Thistle keeper.

Kris Doolan produced Thistle's best effort but Jamie MacDonald pulled off a fine save in stoppage time as the Killie faithful went home happy after an extremely positive day.

Kilmarnock: MacDonald; O'Donnell, Broadfoot, Greer, Findlay; Power, Taylor (Waters), McKenzie (Thomas), Frizzell, Jones, Boyd (Erwin)
