Kilmarnock 2-1 Rangers: Kris Boyd's double earns victory

in Match Reports December 23, 2017

Kris Boyd struck twice as Kilmarnock came from behind to earn a deserved 2-1 victory over Rangers.

The striker helped spark a dramatic turnaround at a rocking Rugby Park after Declan John had given the visitors the lead at the break.

Jordan Jones came in for Chris Burke in the only change to the starting XI, which defeated Motherwell 1-0.

Jones was fouled regularly in the first half with James Tavernier going in the book for fouling the winger before being spoken to by referee Willie Collum for a second foul.

Despite Killie looking comfortable, it was Rangers who took the lead when John cut in from the left and found space in the box to slide the ball past Jamie MacDonald.

However you can't write Killie off under Clark and the home side flew out of the traps at the start of the second period.

Foderingham twice denied Boyd with two excellent saves before Eamonn Brophy struck the post with a shot on the slide.

But there was nothing the Rangers goalkeeper could do when Killie's front two combined next time. Brophy found space and lifted the ball into Boyd's path and the forward made no mistake to find the net.

Just as the crowd had settled down then they were back on their feet as Boyd diverted Youssouf Mulumbu's shot past the despairing dive of Foderingham to send the Kilmarnock fans wild.

Clarke's men held out comfortably in the latter stages as the home crowd enjoyed their early Christmas present.

Kilmarnock: MacDonald; O'Donnell, Broadfoot, S.Boyd, Taylor; Power, Mulumbu, Dicker, Jones (C.Burke), Brophy (Findlay), K.Boyd (Erwin)
