This was not a classic, and after Killie spurned a hat-full of chances, they were caught with a tame 1-2 from Hearts mid-way through the second half, which took all three points back to Edinburgh. And although Craig Bryson did get a goal back with a minute left, just to sum up the day, Balogh had already saved a penalty from Kyle, after Sammon had been tripped in the box.
If Killie dominated the first half, in truth, it was 45 minute that will be quickly forgotten. Both teams were spraying passes all over the place, mainly to places where a team-mate wasn't. Kyle had some headers over the bar from a number of good crosses, both Fernandez and Fowler shot wide, and although Hamill did volley an Old header into the net, he was flagged for offside. During the half Hearts did very little, and Brown was never troubled.

Hearts were better in the second half, but this should still have been Killie's game. Kyle again headed over with the goal gaping, Hamill miss-hit a volley wide, and Frazer Wright had the miss of the match when he knocked the ball tamely to Balogh from 3 yards, when he should have hammered it home. Then in five minutes it was all over. Firstly Jonsson volleyed in a poorly cleared free kick, then Nade got ahead of the defence to flick a Thomson corner, and although it did fly in off Kyle, the big man knew very little about it.

Sammon and Hamill still had time to spurn some more chances, as well as Balogh saving Kyle's penalty, and Bryson's consolation goal came too late to matter. From Jim Jefferies point of view, we had three or four great chances, didn't take them, and got punished for it.
