Alan Cochrane @ Rugby Park

A sloppy start by Kilmarnock caused some uneasy moments for the Killie support, as careless defending and worse link-up play gifted the ball to Inverness. Sammon and Hamill combined well to give the latter a glimpse of goal, but his shot was half blocked and Ryan Esson saved easily. More chances were coming at the other end though, and Bell had to make a diving save from Proctor.

Killie did start to apply some pressure, and Liam Kelly was unfortunate to see his shot deflected over. Then it was Connor Sammon who shot wide after he was found by a Kyle head flick, when he should have hit the target. He did find the target in 28 minutes though, and it was with an exquisite lob from 10 yards. He latched onto a bouncing ball, saw the keeper off his line, and hooked it over him to give Killie the lead. Seven minutes later it was two. Sammon outrun the left back, cut the ball back to Bryson, and when his shot was blocked, Liam Kelly picked his spot and stroked the ball wide of Esson and into the net.

goal 1

Two minutes before the break, Kevin Kyle also tried to lob the keeper but was short, and then passed on to Kelly when he was in a good shooting position himself. It wasn't the best of days for the big striker.

The second half started just like the first, with Kilmarnock once again looking tentative, misplacing passes, and continually taking the wrong option. In 54 minutes, Foran gave Killie what might have been their final warning when he broke clear but shot wide. Kilmarnock took the warning, and pulled themselves together. Hay broke up the right and slung over a cross to the back post, Djebi-Zadi wanted too long to control it, and Kelly nipped in to pick his pocket and score his second, and Kilmarnock's third.

Pascali

Within 10 minutes, Cameron Bell showed why Alan Combe will have to work hard to get back into the team. Richie Foran hammered in a shot from about 12 yards that had goal written all over it, but Bell dived full length to his left and pushed it round the post. Two minutes later Odhiambo sent in a piledriver, and Bell saved that as well.

So Killie won comfortably enough in the end, but if Inverness had had their shooting boots on, or Cameron Bell not in sparkling form, it might have been very different. In fact, Jimmy Calderwood said that he didn't feel comfortable until the 86th minute, and it could all have been very different if Inverness had scored first.
