The under 19s started their league programme at Kilwinning last Saturday against Rangers.

Rangers had most of the possession in the early stages and although they earned a number of corners very few clear cut chances arose and the Killie defence held firm. The first chance fell to Killie when Rory McKenzie latched onto a through ball but his lob over the keeper went just over.Rangers had a chance when their striker got behind the defence but he pulled his shot wide of goal.Killie create another chance when McKenzie was stopped by a last ditch tackle by the Rangers defender.Just when the half looked like ending goalless Rangers were awarded a penalty.A disputed throw in was given to Rangers deep in their half and slack defending allowed them to run at te Killie defence and a penalty was awarded after a tackle inthe box.Rangers converted to take a half time lead.

Rangers started the second half at a higher pace and had Killie penned back for a period ,having a claim for a goal turned down after the ball hit the post and created a number of half chances.Their pressure eventually told when a cross from the right was well steered home by the their striker.Killie then came back into it and Reid Brown got the better of their centre back but placed his shot wide of the post. However shortly afterwards he volleyed a superb goal from the edge of the box to put Killie back in the game.Killie pressed for an equaliser and in the last few minutes saw a number of shots blocked in the penalty box by the Rangers defenders.

There were no further goals however.

An improved performance by Killie from the previous week and hopefully they can continue to improve in this weeks fixture away to Hearts.
